Impossible aspirations or a dream come true?

Behind the arch...
Every girl dreams of her knight in shining armour, of being swept off her feet, even if she's too cool to admit to falling for such a cheesy line. Every girl wants to feel loved and safe, even when she's too standing alone and acting cold. Every girl hopes that someone, somewhere, is thinking of her, dreaming of her. And although she might not admit it, she wishes that life would turn out like a fairytale. Is this because we have had it drummed into us from a very young age that every girl needs her prince and every person requires a happy ending? Despite the fact that fairy and tale are what makes up the word, it still seems that these stories should be the basis for our aspirations. Yet all it seems to do is make them even more impossible to reach. I mean, how many of us really are locked in a tower with a wicked witch as the only company, or treated as a slave  by a pair of ugly sisters, or would walk down the street naked because you were told it was fashionable. But maybe that's what's so magical about them. They aren't real, but they have this perfect quality about them which means they give something to aspire to. And perhaps rather than being true to life, they can hold escapes to places you could never even hope to imagine yourself. Hans Christian Anderson was a very talented guy!
