When we see a garden, we see splashes of every colour in the natural world. When we look at a series of shop windows on a bitter day in January, we see clashing shades in each shop window, fighting for prominence on the High Street. But when we look at this season’s catwalk, we look to see at least an average colour scheme.
I recently read on British Vogue's website that one of the trends for the summer is called rainbow nation (i.e. more clashing shades and jewellery than is possible for the average human to wear without getting eye strain or neckache).
WHY??? |
Generally there are a few fashion victims who follow the catwalk to a T. Last year some could manage to wear beige and a couple of brave souls may drape themselves in bright blue as they follow the footsteps of Kate, in the desperate hope of being the next Princess,. However I think can safely say, very few (I hope!) will have the audacity to step outside their front door step in a mis-match of colours, tones and shades. Wearing an outfit containing every colour of the rainbow is not an invitation for a compliment but rather the open suggestion of a lot of teasing, and merciless friends pulling sunglasses out, every time they see you arrive. If the idea of the fashion designers was to contrast the drab shapes and styles of last season, then they’ve made the right choice. If it was to give us a headache, they’ve succeeded too!
