8. Walk Through the Fire by Cast of Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season 6, episode 7) - this is my favourite of the episodes without Angel in and I love the musical theme of it. This song is poignant and yet captures the action of the scene perfectly and the feelings of all the cast. Sarah Michelle Gellar's voice in it is very haunting as well.

7. One of Us by Glee (season 2, episode 3) - I could not stand this episode (or most of this season's to be honest) but this song was very emotive and as a song on its own, it's not half bad.

6. The Good Kind by The Wreckers (One Tree Hill, season 2, episode 13) - this song has so much emotion behind it, it is practically impossible not to get drawn into the scene.


5. I'll Always Remember You by Miley Cyrus/ Hannah Montana (from Hannah Montana Forever, season 4, episode 13) - ok, it may be a Hannah Montana episode, but I still cried when it was over. It's been the show of my pre-teen years and although I stopped watching it after a while, I had to watch the finale. And they ended it perfectly. It showed Miley and Lily, having grown up, at the airport with their boyfriends (although it typical Disney style, they managed to hide the kissing with a luggage cart that seemed to keep going backwards and forwards) and then the two of them in their new homes, only to end (in typical cheesy style) with Miley returning to join Lily. The montage of some of their best moments along with this song just endedt the episode perfectly, especially as some of those images brought back so many memories for me!

4. Happy Ending by Mika (from Gossip Girl, season 1, episode 6) - sums up the episode perfectly

3. Prom Theme by Fountains of Wayne (from Gossip Girl, season 2, episode 24) - this scene is so melancholic and haunting, its the first thing I remember from season two. It conjures up all the excitment and also all the pain of moving on with your life and leaving school behind.

2. Wedding Dress by Matt Nathanson (from One Tree Hill, season 6, episode 23) - Lucas and Peyton FINALLY get married! This is the song played right at the end of the episode, as they return home after the end of a perfect day.... almost. When Lucas finds Peyton on the floor at the end, this song somehow makes it all the more painful. It's all about getting married but the fear of it as well.

1. Feels like Home by Chantal Kreviazug (from Dawson's Creek, season 2, episode 18) - this song will always be the song that made me fall in love with this show. The adorable yet so not cheesy scene of Dawson and Joey finally realising how in love they are with each other at some random wedding (I ignored that bit). The song is far more poignant that the original and it's very hard not to choke up at it.  

Credit where credit is due...

I have a very varied selection of music on my iPod and so when I set it on shuffle anything can come up from Bon Jovi, Nickleback and Guns N' Roses to Kate Voegele, High School Musical and Hannah Montana. I think this is true for most people because it's very hard to listen to the same style of music all the time and some music will have been put on when you're ten or eleven and you haven't quite got round to taking it off.

Anyway I put my iPod on shuffle this morning and the first song that came up was Gotta Got my Own Way from High School Musical 2. I very nearly forwarded onto the next song but then I thought I should just keep listening for a moment and before I knew it I was singing along (though how I know the words, I'm not sure). The thing is I would never do that if I was not alone with the door shut and I realised that's the same for most.

We give the credit to the artists that we think others will admire too (like Taio Cruz - who, btw, is one of the few rap artists I can listen to without wondering what has happened to the eardrums of my generation) or the music that we are most exposed to on radio stations like Capital.fm and a little goes to older rock music (like Guns N' Roses although I know that almost all of my year group - year 10 - have never heard of artists such as Foreigner, The La's or Meat Loaf and one of my friends couldn't name a single Beatles or Rolling Stones song and had never heard the song I can't get no satisfaction) but music that isn't popular, could be classified as cheesy, is from a soundtrack or if old music that no one's heard of, is generally dismissed as not worth the time.

High School Musical and Hannah Montana are examples where people might listen to the music in secret but there's no appreciation for the fact that there are composers who wrote that music and furthermore created a song that linked to a storyline. Or how about the film Music and Lyrics? Most people haven't even heard of the film yet the centre song Way Back Into Love is an incredible song on its own, without the story behind it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't judge music by it's cover because every song deserves credit and a listening. For every 3 minute song, there's been hours spent writing and rewriting by people who will probably never been known. And we should give credit where credit is due.

10. Leave Out All the Rest by Linken Park - one of the best rock songs to leave behind the bad parts of the day and remember the best ones.

9. Life is a Rollercoaster by Ronan Keating - for a non-cheesy, mellow and relaxing song to cheer you up, this is it. It's all about letting life run it's course, even if it's currently falling to the ground from a very high height.

8. You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home by Hannah Montana (aka Miley Cyrus) - before you start questioning my sanity, let me explain. If you ignore who the singer is and just listen to the song, the lyrics actually have a lot of meaning to them: the song's all about the fact that whatever you do and regardless of whether you become a millionaire or a criminal or anything in between you can always go home and you won't be turned away. The song is also really upbeat and can bring up a smile on your face, even if you're just laughing at the cheesiness!

7. Somebody Out There by Kate Alexa - this song is another upbeat, cheerful one but is far less cheesy! I love all of Kate Alexa's music but this song is one of my most listened to of all time because of it's ability to put a smile on your face. It's all about knowing that there's someone out there who will one day love you and it always makes me feel calm. It's poppy but not like the current chart-trash.

6. Someday I'll be Saturday Night by Bon Jovi - this song is number three in my list of feel good songss but I love it so much that I had to mention it again! It's a truly inspirational song.

5. One of Those Days by Emily Osment - once more, ignore the who the singer is and listen to the great rock of this song. Perfect to lift your mood.

4. The Good Kind by The Wreckers - this might not be an upbeat song but it's a great song to let all your emotions out to. I think it's a very beautiful songs and in a strange way, it's really uplifting.

3. Even Angels Fall by Jessica Riddle - if you've seen 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), you'll know what I mean when I say this is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONG EVER!! If it doesn't make you cry, then it'll give hope to you because it's all about the fact that everyone makes mistakes and at the end of the day, you can always pick yourself up again.

2. It's Only Life by Kate Voegule - upbeat, girly and a mix of pop and light rock, this song has all the characteristics of a great song to cheer you up and make you realise 'it's only life'.

1. Bad Day by Daniel Powter - how could I not put this at number 1. This is the song that everybody knows but can't quite remember the singer. For a song to sum of your suckish day, this HAS to be it!
