Best TV shows at the moment

So obviously this is the UK so any american show will be at least 2 episodes behind (for the O.C. it has only just started here!).

1. Gossip Girl - I hated most of this season. Ok, that's a bit excessive. But I didn't like it. Not just because Chuck and Blair weren't back together - although that didn't help - but because it just seems to have lost the plot entirely. My favourite seasons are, and will forever be, seasons 1 and 2 because I think those are the most relatable (because all sixteen year olds go out drinking in fancy hotels in New York after school....) but I enjoyed season 3 and parts of season 4 were good, but season 5 seems to have gone insane! It's as if all the characters have been replaced by different ones who look like them and sound like them but actually aren't them at all. Take Blair for instance. Remember Queen B, who used to sit on the Met steps and shout at anyone sitting below her and who was also the meanest girl in school, with the two hot boyfriends fighting over her? Neither do I. At least not this season. Because now she is dating Lonely Boy and doesn't seem to care what Chuck is up to and is just far too laid back about the whole Serena/ Ivy thing.

But all that aside, the last few episodes have picked up (in the UK we have just seen 'Con Heir') and I'm actually starting to get into the drama again (if I close my eyes through the Dair scenes at least). So I'd say that if you've stopped watching (like I almost did), go back to it. It's actually starting to return to the show it used to be.

2. One Tree Hill - ok, so I know this has finished in the US now, but over here it hasn't and I LOVE season 9! I cannot believe it is almost over and I will be devastated when it is because this season has suddenly become epic! Season 7 was good (though the loss of Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton meant it could never match season 6) but I was hugely disappointed with season 8, except for the Chase and Alex plotline. Season 9 though has suddenly turned the show around I just know everything will end just as it should. So watch it!

3. Pretty Little Liars - again, this season has finished in the US but we are almost there and I am dying to find out who 'A' is (ok fine. I already know - I looked it up after the last episode aired over there). But I just think this show gets better and better every episode. I am constantly impressed that the writers can manage so many different strands of plot and I'm so confused that I always forget what was found out like only two weeks ago. But it is an outstanding show and has taken the place of Gossip Girl in my heart so I think everyone should watch this one.

4. 90210 - this is another show that went badly at the start of the season but now seems to have found its footing and is actually working very well - possibly even better than season 3, which I felt lost it by the end of the season. Although it feels that the show has become a lot more 'adult', what with Annie's work at Bree's escort business and her dealing with her inheritance and Dixon's drug issues and Ad's desire to see Maisie again, I think this was necessary to some degree and the darker, more dramatic moments have almost reinvented the show. There is of course still the light hearted side of things, and far more parties now that Naomi's working as an event planner, which is awesome.

5. Vampire Diaries - what can I say? Between Damen and Elena and Stefan and Elena, I'm amazed there's still the time for all the Original drama that makes up the show. Honestly, the show would be brilliant if it was just the love triangle the entire time but add in all the terrifying suspense of the supernatural element of the show and this show becomes absolutely incredible. To describe it concisely would be impossible, and I'm not going to try, but needless to say, if you are not already watching it, start right now! And I mean it.

8. Walk Through the Fire by Cast of Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season 6, episode 7) - this is my favourite of the episodes without Angel in and I love the musical theme of it. This song is poignant and yet captures the action of the scene perfectly and the feelings of all the cast. Sarah Michelle Gellar's voice in it is very haunting as well.

7. One of Us by Glee (season 2, episode 3) - I could not stand this episode (or most of this season's to be honest) but this song was very emotive and as a song on its own, it's not half bad.

6. The Good Kind by The Wreckers (One Tree Hill, season 2, episode 13) - this song has so much emotion behind it, it is practically impossible not to get drawn into the scene.


5. I'll Always Remember You by Miley Cyrus/ Hannah Montana (from Hannah Montana Forever, season 4, episode 13) - ok, it may be a Hannah Montana episode, but I still cried when it was over. It's been the show of my pre-teen years and although I stopped watching it after a while, I had to watch the finale. And they ended it perfectly. It showed Miley and Lily, having grown up, at the airport with their boyfriends (although it typical Disney style, they managed to hide the kissing with a luggage cart that seemed to keep going backwards and forwards) and then the two of them in their new homes, only to end (in typical cheesy style) with Miley returning to join Lily. The montage of some of their best moments along with this song just endedt the episode perfectly, especially as some of those images brought back so many memories for me!

4. Happy Ending by Mika (from Gossip Girl, season 1, episode 6) - sums up the episode perfectly

3. Prom Theme by Fountains of Wayne (from Gossip Girl, season 2, episode 24) - this scene is so melancholic and haunting, its the first thing I remember from season two. It conjures up all the excitment and also all the pain of moving on with your life and leaving school behind.

2. Wedding Dress by Matt Nathanson (from One Tree Hill, season 6, episode 23) - Lucas and Peyton FINALLY get married! This is the song played right at the end of the episode, as they return home after the end of a perfect day.... almost. When Lucas finds Peyton on the floor at the end, this song somehow makes it all the more painful. It's all about getting married but the fear of it as well.

1. Feels like Home by Chantal Kreviazug (from Dawson's Creek, season 2, episode 18) - this song will always be the song that made me fall in love with this show. The adorable yet so not cheesy scene of Dawson and Joey finally realising how in love they are with each other at some random wedding (I ignored that bit). The song is far more poignant that the original and it's very hard not to choke up at it.

5. Dawson's Creek - I've only just started watching this but already I love it: sometimes I even wonder if Joey and I are twins or something - she's exactly like me! I guess I love the innocence of the programme (and yes, despite having Gossip Girl as number one on this list, I do like innocent programmes too) and the fact you don't have to turn the channel when your dad walks in (which I do with all the others on this list). I also like the fact that the girls don't have 'bff'' relationships because I don't know any friendship like that but I know plenty like Joey and Jen in the earlier seasons.

4. Vampire Diaries - this is one of those programmes which you can be really critical about until you actually start watching it and before you know it you're caught up in all the drama of Stephen and Elena vs. Elena and Damon (NB, I want Damon and Elena!) and whether Katherina will betray them all yet again or will suddenly change and do the right thing (who am I kidding?). I can't stand Twilight (they're far too cheesy mush for my liking) but Vampire Diaries captures the danger and the drama as well as sometimes verging on thriller. Plus the romance scenes are hot!

3. One Tree Hill - Lucas and Peyton, Lucas and Brooke, Lucas and Lindsey... this was pretty much the reason I started watching it: Lucas drama. And believe me, there is plenty of it in the first six seasons (yes I do mean the first 6!). I then thought the seventh would be a let down as Chad Murray Michael (Lucas) and Hilery B (Peyton) left the show but the new characters that were brought in seemed to add a new dimension and brighten the show after the kind of sombre season 6. Alex is my favourite season 7 character, a young actress whose career has kind of fallen apart and she becomes a model to work at Brooke's Clothes Over Bro's fashion show, although she is constantly partying and drunk.. oh and she fancies Julian, Brooke's long-term boyfriend.....

2. Hellcats - I am completely hooked on this show. The drama, the romance, the cheerleading, the law cases, more drama.... If I went to school in the US, I would be trying out for cheerleading constantly (I might not make the team, but if I could, I would)!

1. Gossip Girl - I started watching this when I was twelve which is definately too young but I fell in love with the romance of New York and now I just can't stop watching. Season 4 has been far better than season 3 and I just can't wait to find out what happens between Chuck and Blair. Thankfully they've renewed it for season 5 but I just hope they don't remake season 3 as that would be agonising!
